Local artist Josue Rojas’ ¡Gentromancer! exhibition ran from Sept. 10, 2016 through Oct. 14, 2016. In July of 2016, Rojas invited the community to contribute to a project that offers a statement about the displacement of long-time residents in San Francisco and, in particular, the Mission District. The response to his request was dramatic, with artwork pouring in from all directions—the voices ranging from youth in San Francisco’s juvenile hall to San Francisco’s Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguía.

Rojas incorporated these disparate voices into the creation of  iGéntromancer!, a multimedia exhibition about the impact of gentrification, which features visual work across a range of mediums including painting, drawing and murals.

“The range and scope of voices in the poetry directly feed the work” Rojas said. “It’s a place in which we as the community are able to say who we are, and what we want. Moreover, it is a place in which we are able to articulate our power, resilience and our dreams for the future.”
