Imelda Carrasco named Executive Director

San Francisco — Acción Latina is proud to announce that Imelda Carrasco has been appointed Executive Director of the Mission District-based nonprofit organization, effective March 10, 2025. Carrasco succeeds Fátima Ramírez and brings a powerful mix of journalistic leadership, community organizing experience and deep family roots in San Francisco’s Latino immigrant community.
“Coming to Acción Latina is also a full-circle moment,” Carrasco wrote in a personal letter published by El Tecolote. “My parents built their lives in the Bay Area, and the Mission District is where they found their first sense of community. Taking on this role feels like a way to pay that forward.”
Carrasco most recently served as publisher of the independent newsroom 48Hills, and previously worked in San Francisco City Hall as a legislative aide. She also helped lead the Student Success Fund campaign to bring critical mental health and academic resources to underserved public schools.
Carrasco now leads Acción Latina’s cornerstone programs:
- El Tecolote, a legacy bilingual newsroom that serves San Francisco’s Latino communities
- The Juan R. Fuentes Gallery, showcasing Latinx artists and cultural events
- Paseo Artístico, a quarterly arts walk along 24th Street
- Encuentro del Canto Popular, a yearly music concert that celebrate Latin American culture and resistance

In addition to Carrasco’s appointment, Acción Latina is also entering a new era of board leadership.
Ana Montes, a longtime board member, has been named Board President, succeeding David J. de la Torre, who stepped down from the role. Montes brings decades of experience in statewide organizing, digital equity and civic engagement. Acción Latina is also welcoming a new board member, Alex Rivera, a bilingual program director with over a decade of experience in education equity, youth leadership and nonprofit program development.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Imelda Carrasco as our new Executive Director,” said Montes. “Imelda brings a wealth of leadership and expertise that will be invaluable as we continue to advance our work.”
