Acción Latina’s Juan R. Fuentes Gallery
2958 24th Street, San Francisco

The unlikely election of Donald Trump created a fierce and immediate cultural reaction, as people are forced to reconsider the role of culture in the personal and the political.

Curated by Juan R. Fuentes and Art Hazelwood, Creation & Resistance: Printmaking in Dark Times captures eleven artists’ responses to this moment of struggle and survival. The artists represent a diverse array of printmakers and approaches. Some jump into the fray with immediate responses—street posters, direct attacks, caricatures—some remain deep in thought contemplating the times with an eye towards the psychological or even mythological elements of the moment. What they share is a sensitivity to the currents of our times, as well as an ability to put that vision into concrete form.
