This story is immigrant led, majority woman told, and 1st generation safe. “Mass Sanctuaries / More Santuarios” is an exhibition welcoming a voices that speak of the work we will be doing for this next phase of a physiological war.
If it’s not too much trouble I want us all to take three deep breaths together
inhale
exhale
inhale
exhale
inhale
exhale
This breathing technique will be our number one tool we will use to put space between the fear. Mass deportations is a fear program designed to activate our instinct to flee and run. It’s dangerous rhetoric and there’s no room for it here – when we say here, I mean earth.
This coming together is a road map for how we will carry each other through the grief and the fear. We will stand by each other to feel safe.
If we must run it will be to go into the arms of our families to reunite, if we tremble it will be to dance to the sound of the welcome drums, and if we are to kneel down, it will be to honor the planting of the first fruit tree of our new home.
