Somos/Funky was a showcase of artists whose work reflects the social consciousness of the Mission aesthetic, a funky tribute to the eclectic and colorful characters who make up the cultural tapestry of La Misión. Curators Josué Rojas (Acción Latina’s executive director) and Fatima Ramirez (Acción Latina’s cultural arts manager) weren’t seeking to provide an “end-all” or definitive exposé of alternative art, but rather to provide a vignette and snapshot of a moment in time as seen through some of our favorite, “not categorizable” artists.
