Flor y Canto en el Barrio: A Celebration of Latino Poetry takes place throughout at various places in San Francisco’s Mission District, July 24-26, 2008. All events are free. Translated to mean “Flower and Song in the Neighborhood,” the festival, which is part of the SF International Poetry Festival/Litquake, brings young, unpublished poets alongside well-known authors to create a special exchange of culture and history.

The Festival kick-off party and Lit Crawl begins at 6pm at Balmy Alley, 24th St. between Harrison & Folsom.

The Lit Crawl will take place at over six different venues on 24th Street (between Mission and Bryant). For more info on all the events go to www.friendssfpl.org. Supporters of the event include Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, the San Francisco Public Library, Litquake, El Tecolote, Univision, MCCLA, and 826 Valencia cafe.

“Flor y Canto is about the pursuit of peace through the celebration of poetry, art, culture, and friendship. We want to bring together people from all walks of life to be part of this extraordinary event.”

Alejandro Murguía
event curator and poet
