Arte de lucha: Obras de Malaquias Montoya

Malaquias Montoya es reconocido por los historiadores como uno de los fundadores del movimiento de serigrafía social en el Área de la Bahía de San Francisco a mediados de la década de 1960. Un profesor emérito en la Universidad de California en Davis, la expresión visual única de Montoya es arte de protesta, que representa la resistencia y la fuerza de la humanidad frente a la injusticia y la necesidad de unirse detrás de esa lucha. Esta exposición retrospectiva reunirá obras que abarcan la totalidad del trabajo del maestro de grabado: ¡50 años y contando!

“Es con esta voz que trato de comunicar, acercarme y tocar a otros, especialmente a esa población silenciosa y a menudo ignorada de la clase obrera chicana, mexicana y centroamericana, junto con otras personas privadas de derechos del mundo. Esta forma me permite despertar la conciencia, revelar la realidad y trabajar activamente para transformarla. ¿Qué mejor función para el arte en este momento? Una voz para los que no tiene voz.”
